About Education
Education is the dissemination of information, the acquiring of knowledge, skills, behaviors, beliefs, values, and concepts. Educational systems include training, teaching, interactive learning, storytelling and facilitated discussion. These systems can be categorized broadly into three areas: school systems; community development; and civic/cultural organizations.
Education has been viewed as a key role in economic development since the Industrial Revolution. The impact of education on economic growth has also been studied over time. A huge amount of effort has gone into improving education systems worldwide with the implementation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program, theses foresee that better quality education is strongly linked to economic growth.
Community development involves strategies and activities for the promotion of educational opportunity and improvement of living standards, health, the environment, family structure and social protection. It also involves policies that address the problem of family conflicts and the promotion of peaceful and well-being. Civil and local government programs are usually implemented in developing communities. They include scholarships, grants, and other financial resources. Community development is usually implemented by the government as a component of its development strategy.
The role of school curricula in promoting education has been debated over time. The educational system has developed to serve various needs, aspirations and choices of students. At present, a wide variety of texts and instructional materials are available in the schools. There has been considerable technological changeover and many new technologies have been introduced that contributed to the development of modern learning.
Technology has also been an important contributor to the growth of education. The computer and the internet have become part of our everyday lives, thus have become a significant source of information and learning. There are many websites and books available in the library that provide information and inspiration to students. The power of visual images in the form of photographs and videos are also contributing factors in encouraging learning.
Community involvement of the parents and community are some other important areas that should be considered while discussing about education. Parents’ involvement in education is very vital in shaping the learning of their children. They should be actively involved in the planning and teaching of the curriculum. They should make their children go through the curriculum at home so that they know what is being taught. At the end of the day, parents should ensure that they have complete knowledge about education.
The quality of education is determined by the facilities and equipment available in a school. It is the responsibility of the school authorities to ensure that all the basic facilities and equipments are properly used to help children learn everything that they require. These facilities include multi-media aids, visual aids, audio-visual aids and computer aided teaching systems. The computer can be used for providing visual aids such as videos to reinforce the lesson. Audio-visual aids include audios, sound tracks that facilitate learning.
The school is an important resource for promoting a positive lifestyle among children. Community involvement in education should be encouraged. The involvement of the local community in education is beneficial because they can shape and influence the way students think and decide.
