History is the study of history. If you are interested in what happened in the past centuries, you would be looking into the cultural history of a particular region, country or time period. A qualified cultural historian will have vast knowledge about past artistic practices, events and people, even though they may specialize in one particular area of history.
Public history is focused on studying the past through the work of historians and others. Public historians examine a wide variety of topics from broad perspectives, as their work often spans many periods of history or a range of disciplines. You may want to pursue a career as a public history writer, historian or researcher; in this case, you would want to find an academic program that allows for your personal interests and hobbies.
